Equinix Deploys High-Efficiency Toroidal Power Inductor Globally to Reduce Data Center Carbon Emissions

April 12, 2026, Singapore Equinix, the world’s largest carrier-neutral data center operator, announced a global green power equipment upgrade plan, which will comprehensively replace traditional E-core inductors with customized high-efficiency toroidal power inductor in UPS uninterruptible power supplies and server multi-phase power supply units of more than 50 global data center parks, aiming to reduce the overall energy consumption of all facilities by 15% by 2030 and achieve phased carbon neutrality goals. Data centers run 24/7 all year round, and the power loss of UPS power conversion equipment accounts for a large proportion of the total energy consumption of the park. Traditional open-core inductors have serious magnetic flux leakage and high hysteresis loss, while the closed annular structure of the toroidal power inductor makes the internal magnetic field distribution uniform, greatly reducing core loss and conduction loss in the process of energy storage and release. Equinix internal engineering test data shows that the customized industrial-grade toroidal power inductor reduces the power loss of a single UPS equipment by 12%, and extends the service life of internal power modules by 3 to 5 years thanks to lower operating temperature. The first batch of equipment upgrading projects was launched in Singapore and Northern California data centers in the first quarter of 2026, and the global full rollout will be completed in phases by 2028. Equinix sustainability director commented that large-scale popularization of low-loss toroidal power inductor is one of the most cost-effective technical paths to reduce the carbon footprint of data centers, and the company will further cooperate with magnetic component manufacturers to jointly develop ultra-high power density toroidal power inductor specially used for next-generation liquid-cooled AI server power cabinets.
