Telecommunications Company Deploys 33uh Inductor in 5G Base Station Power Supplies

Telecom infrastructure provider GlobalCom has adopted a high-frequency 33uh inductor from TelecomPassive for its latest 5G base station power supply units (PSUs). The inductor is used in the PSU’s power factor correction (PFC) circuit, improving the base station’s power quality and reducing harmonic distortion to meet international telecom standards. “5G base stations operate at higher frequencies and require more efficient power supplies to handle increased data traffic,” said James Wilson, Network Infrastructure Director at GlobalCom.

“The 33uh inductor’s ability to operate at frequencies up to 5MHz with minimal losses allows our PSUs to achieve a power factor of 0.99, significantly reducing energy waste and lowering operational costs for network operators.” TelecomPassive’s 33uh inductor also features excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression, reducing interference with other base station components. GlobalCom has begun rolling out the upgraded PSUs across its 5G network in North America, with plans to expand to other regions by 2025.
